We currently have our software set to do the following:
1. send the email confirmation while you are on the phone so you can confirm the email address is correct
2. an hour later, they get a personalized text message from the business expert "looking forward to speaking with you...."
3. on the day of their call, they got an automatic text message from the business expert "Just checking that we are still on for (time and date)..
4. they get an email reminder an hour before
for some people (maybe 2%), they complain that we send them too many reminders.
They need to be an adult and realize that other people need this many reminders.

I get 9 contacts from my dentist for every appointment.
I do not complain because I am a grownup and realize that this is necessary for people who need it. For people who do not understand that others need so many reminders, for people who look at the world only from their point of view, we cannot fix them.
So if you get a complaint, you say "Joe, I wish everyone was a responsible as you. But they are not. So for some people, we need to provide multiple reminders. And we do not know which people need those reminders and which do not. So again, accept our apology and thank you for being responsible"
